Known as "Pearl of the Orient" and a "Tourist Paradise", the state of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan.

On the north Goa is bordered by the state of Maharashtra, on the south and east by the state of Karnataka. On the west the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea forms the magnificent coastline for which Goa is famous.

Admits this beautiful state of Goa is the lust green forest surrounded by the golden paddy fields and palms swaying in the wind. Along the western coast is the long stretch of blue-green water running from north to south with the slivery sand so called the beaches of Goa where one can bake themselves under the shining sun, and as evening approaches see the beautiful sunset.


The extravagant picturesque beauty and the architectural creative temples, captivating churches, Old Portuguese houses, and world heritage architecture including the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa have made Goa a pleasant place for tourist to visit every year.

The feasts and festivals of Goa are the other entertaining things not to be missed. Goa has the never ending and rocking night parties, beach parties, trance parties. Cultural activities are held at Kala Acadamy which includes the mando's festival, singing competitions, musical concerts, other activities and competitions.

Panaji (Panjim) the state's capital is located on the banks of the Mandovi river. Other major cities are Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda. The international/national airport is located at Dabolim near Vasco. A transportation network which includes the buses, taxis, bikes, rickshaws play an important role in getting locals and visitors alike in and around Goa.


Shopping in Goa is a captivating experience for every tourist. The Friday Market at Mapusa and the Wednesday flea Market at Anjuna Beach are the two most famous market places. Brand name outlets are found in the city of Panaji and the beach areas.

Goa also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range. Enjoy bird watching in Goa at Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary at Chorao Island, have an adventurous moment at the wildlife sanctuaries of Bondla, Bhagvan Mahavir Sanctuary in Mollem, and the Mandovi-Zuari Wildlife Sanctuary. Crocodile and Dolphin Trips are the other existing adventures one can indulge in.

Goa is a multi-lingual state wherein people speak different languages because they come from various regions, ethnic races and religions from India and other countries over the years. Konkani is the state language along with English. Hindi and Marathi are widely spoken all over Goa.

Majority of the population in Goa is made up of Hindus and Catholics communities with minority representation of Muslims and other religions.
